In a saucepan, heat the broth over medium heat. Add the celery, carrot, garlic, sage, and clove. Reduce heat to med-low or low for a bare simmer. Cook just until the carrots and celery are tender, 5 to 10 minutes
Remove and discard the garlic and clove. Season with salt and pepper and serve.
